Daly & The Desert
|
“Like, for example,
if you come to my country, to my home land, or here, people usually take you to
the river and put water on your head and your belly button, from the palm of
their hands, and that’s our way of welcoming you to the country. And they’ll make
you stand in the water ankle deep and say welcome to my place. And then when
the water falls off your body and goes into the river your presence is carried
through the river and the land, and the ancestors are told and know you are
here and are a part of this country and are welcome”. Miriam-Rose, Nauiyu community.
