Public Art Grants

Dear artists and arts organisations,

Arts NT would like to remind you of the public art grants currently available, in particular the Declan Apuatimi/ J Bird Public Art Fellowship Grant. Applications for these grants will close on 15th March 2010.

The Declan Apuatimi/J Bird Public Art Fellowship aims to support professional development opportunities for contemporary artists with an identifiable commitment to achieving innovation and excellence in public art practice.

The successful Fellow will strive to extend their arts practice to a new level, explore new processes and methods and make a significant contribution to art in the public realm in the Northern Territory.

For the purposes of the Fellowship the definition of further study may include formal and informal study such as University-based study, or a structured residency with a national and/or international organisation or recognised artist. The definition of further study is not restricted to create flexibility for applicants to develop proposals that are aligned with current projects and/or address individual and unique professional development requirements.

For the purposes of the Fellowship a professional artist is defined as a person who has extensive experience in their art practice and can demonstrate a course of development and presentation of their work over a minimum of three years.

For further information on Public Art grants categories and application details please see our website.

Recently Arts NT has supported artist workshops, public art policy development projects and major works projects for the Toga Group Waterfront Development and in association with local councils in Darwin, Alice Springs, Katherine and Palmerston.

The Declan Apuatimi/ J Bird fellowship is another opportunity for NT artists interested in furthering their skills and professional development in public art practice.

If you are interested in finding out more about public art grants, I encourage you to contact Senior Arts Broker, Kieren Sanderson in Alice Springs at kieren.sanderson@nt.gov.au or myself in Darwin at angela.hill@nt.gov.au.
