Geographical Location

Palmerston, a satellite town 20 km outside the Darwin, is one of Australia’s fastest growing residential areas. It services a wide rural area including the smaller settlements of Humpty Doo, Bees Creek, Howard Springs, Noonamah, Berry Springs, and Darwin River, and the vast system of rivers and wetlands that surround them. These provide havens for wildlife in Darwin's developing rural fringe and have international significance because of their beauty, natural systems and importance to Aboriginal people. The Limilngan Wulna ‘freshwater’ Aboriginal people have made the Mary River region and the Adelaide River catchment their home for thousands of years, and continue to live, hunt and practise their traditional culture here.
