2009 Telstra Road to Tamworth Grand Finalists announced

2009 Telstra Road to Tamworth Grand Finalists announced

Eight performers have been chosen to progress to the Telstra Road to Tamworth Grand Final after last night’s finals series at the Tamworth Regional Entertainment and Conference Centre.

Joined by headline acts, The McClymonts and 2008 Telstra Road to Tamworth winners Jasmine Rae and Mark Wells, the 14 heat winners blew the judges and audience away with a spectacular live show, making it very difficult to choose the best eight Grand Finalists.

“Each year, the level of talent emerging continues to really impress the judges and it gets more and more difficult to choose the top eight finalists. Tonight’s Grand Final is going to be an exceptional showcase,” said competition judge and CEO of Entertainment Edge, Rob Potts.

The Telstra Road to Tamworth competition travels to every State and Territory in Australia each year in search of the next generation of country music stars.  In just six years, the competition has become Australia’s biggest and most recognised country music talent quest.

It is the only country music talent competition in the world recognised by the US Country Music Association and joining our local industry Grand Final judging panel via the Telstra Next G™ network weblink from the United States will be Pat Higdon, Executive Vice President and General Manager of Universal Music Publishing group Nashville, Tim Catino, Vice President A&R Sony BMG Music Nashville and Mark Moffatt, Expatriate Australian record producer.

With a total prize package valued over $140,000, the program’s winning formula of world class performance opportunities along with a full 12-month career development program has produced some of the Australia’s leading music acts, including 2004 inaugural winner Jessica Mauboy and 2008 winner, country music sensation Jasmine Rae, who has been nominated for two Golden Guitar Awards this year.

Tonight’s Grand Final winner will receive a return trip to Nashville, including the opportunity to record an album with ABC Music, distributed by Warner Music Australia among a long list of impressive prizes.

The Telstra Road to Tamworth Songwriters Award will also receive a return trip to Nashville to work with Universal Music Publishing, Nashville’s leading songwriters.

Headlining tonight’s Grand Final in what promises to be a sensational night of country music will be Telstra Road to Tamworth Ambassador, Adam Harvey, along with 2008 winner Jasmine Rae and 2007 winner Morgan Evans.

The event will be broadcast via live webcast at www.beinvolved.com.au/countrymusic and tickets are still available via Tourism Tamworth’s website www.visittamworth.com.
