The Future of the Territory’s Screen Industry |
The Future of the Territory’s Screen IndustryThe Northern Territory Film Office (NTFO) reminds Territorians they have just over a week to contribute responses to recommended activities of the NTFO for the next five years with comments closing next Friday, 6 February 2009. NTFO Director Penelope McDonald said the paper that was released in December 2008 focuses on future planning and potential priorities for the Northern Territory screen industry “NTFO already has a visioning and planning process well underway for the Northern Territory screen industry and associated industries to develop a long term plan for sustaining and developing the screen industry,” Ms McDonald said. “We have a vibrant and successful screen industry in the Territory, with a number of small business and professionals who are recognised for their creative skills internationally. “If we can build upon the industry that we already have, as well as attract feature productions like Australia, Balibo and Samson and Delilah, all Territorians will benefit. “Every time a film, video or any other media is made in the Territory our local economy benefits, the screen industry is a very labour intensive industry. “Increasing local activity is particularly important in the current economic climate and historically screen media performs well in times of economic downturn, everybody loves a good yarn and to be swept away with stories told in pictures and sound.” Ms McDonald said the NTFO and international media consultant Doug Macnamara are working alongside a steering committee of Territorians specifically appointed to explore the dynamics of the screen industry in the Territory. “The discussion paper pulls together a range of local, national and international information to help stimulate thinking and dialogue about the future of the screen sector in the Territory,” Ms McDonald said. “We are looking forward to hearing feedback and comments from the screen media sector, as well as the public, in relation to Doug Macnamara’s recommended positioning for NTFO for 2009 to 2015. “Over the next five months the NTFO will continue to work closely with the Northern Territory screen industry to develop future plans for the screen industry, and the best ways in which the Northern Territory Government can support the industry.” Comments should be submitted in writing and received by close of business, Friday 6 February 2009 and will be published online. For more information on the process or to view the discussion paper go to www.ntfilm.com.au or contact NTFO on 8952 5222.
