Yuliana Pascoe wins Telstra Road to Tamworth heatYuliana Pascoe is now on the road to achieving every country musician's dream, after winning the Darwin heat of the Telstra Road to Tamworth competition at The Darwin Show on Saturday night . Yuliana, 15, from Karama will advance through to the Finals held at the Tamworth Country Music Festival presented by Telstra in January 2009 and is in the running to win a full album deal with ABC Music, along with a return trip to country music capital Nashville, USA. The 11 contestants who performed in the Darwin heat were live judged by a panel of industry experts, but it was Yuliana who caught the eye of the judges. Currently completing Year 9 at Darwin High School, Yuliana has been performing since she was six years old and already has an impressive list of credits to her name. Two memorable performances in the past year include, sharing the stage with inaugural Telstra Road to Tamworth Winner, Jessica Mauboy at the 2007 Arafura Games, and performing at Parliament House for the NT Australian of the Year ceremony. Darwin born and bred, Yuliana was cheered on by the 3,000 strong local crowd as she performed "Faint of Heart" by Gina Jeffreys and "The Territory" by former 2006 Telstra Road to Tamworth Songwriter's Award Winner, Kirsty Lee Akers. After being announced as the heat winner, event organisers were unsure whether Yuliana was more excited about her win, or meeting her country music idol Morgan Evans. "I'm totally gobsmacked, I don't know what to say - I tackled Morgan Evans!" she exclaimed. As part of the trip to Nashville, the overall winner will perform at a two high profile showcase concerts during the CMA Music Festival, the largest country music festival in the world. Australian country music star and 2009 Telstra Road to Tamworth Ambassador, Adam Harvey, said Yuliana is now on her way to becoming the next big thing in country music. "Every country music hopeful dreams of two things - to record their first album and to perform in Nashville. The Telstra Road to Tamworth gives musicians the chance to win these opportunities and secure a successful career start in country music," Harvey said. Like all 14 heat winners, Yuliana receives $1,000 to assist her travel to the Finals held during the 2009 Tamworth Country Music Festival presented by Telstra in January recognised as the largest country music festival in Australia. From these 14 heat winners, the top eight contestants will receive an Epiphone DR-100 Acoustic Guitar and progress through to the Grand Final Series showcase.
